CHIEF OF POLICE
THE CITY OF CREST HILL IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF CHIEF OF POLICE
General Information: The City of Crest Hill has a population of approximately 20,000. The City is an established community with a mixture of residential, commercial and industrial development. The City also has some vacant land subject to new growth. The Police department has an approximate annual budget of 4 million dollars. The Department employs 24 sworn officers and 2 administrative employees. The Chief is appointed by the Mayor with approval of the City Council and reports directly to the Mayor.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a minimum of 10 years law enforcement experience including at least 2 years of supervisory and/or management police experience preferred. Non-degreed candidates with at least 15 years of law enforcement experience including at least 4 years of supervisory and/or management police experience will be considered. The Candidate must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
Expectations: The Candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with employees, citizens and other governmental agencies. The Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of police operations, an understanding of typical police departmental goals and objectives, the ability to plan and direct departmental growth and improvement, and the ability to plan and direct community outreach.
The successful candidate must reside no more than 15 miles from Crest Hill, within a reasonable time.
Salary: The salary range for this position is from $90,000 to $100,000 depending on experience and qualification. Compensation includes an excellent benefit package.
