Wastewater Treatment General Information

The collection and processing of wastewater and storm water in a quick and efficient manner is vital to the health and safety of the residents of the City of Crest Hill. This is why the City of Crest Hill has two Wastewater Treatment Plants. The Treatment facilities are managed to the specifications mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and has complied for over the last 20 years.

Clean Water Production

The Treatment plants are able to process all wastewater produced by the city's residents. The operators of these facilities provide the proper control of several complex biological as well as chemical processes that produce clean water. The clean water that is produced by the plants is released back into nature according to EPA guidelines.

Sewer Backups

If you have sewer backup in your house or business, please feel free to call at 815-741-5108 during the hours of 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. For after hour's assistance please call 815-741-5111.

During the rainy season, many sanitary sewers throughout the city become overloaded by rainwater because of improper hook ups of storm sewers, sump pumps, and gutters/downspouts. Please remember that City Ordinance 15.21 makes it illegal to have any storm water/rain water hooked into the sanitary sewer system. This clear water is to be pumped either onto the ground or in the storm water collection system. If you have any illegal connections to the sanitary sewer system and would like to have them removed, the City has a 50/50 program where residents may receive up to 50% of the cost (up to $4,000) reimbursed. Residents should contact the Utilities Department for more information on whether they have improper connections and how to identify them or for more information about the program, you can also see attachment of Overheard Sewer Program attached below for more information.

The City of Crest Hill has awarded the East WRF P Improvements Project to Williams Brothers Construction of East Peoria, Illinois. The project is being funded by a $5,910,700 low interest loan from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Pollution Control Loan Program.
